Week 3 - Focus

We live in a world filled with distractions. Sometimes negative influences try to keep us from achieving our personal best, sometimes even too many good choices can keep us from really progressing when we neglect to commit to a specific goal. The ability to focus on a specific task, on training, on a project, will help you to achieve your long-term goals.

“One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.” – Tony Robbins

“Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus.” – Alexander Graham Bell

Practicing the four laws of focus in your capoeira training will help you progress more quickly, learn and retain curriculum, and give you the opportunity to hone a mental skill valuable in any pursuit.

The Four Laws of Focus are:

1. I focus my eyes
2. I focus my ears
3. I focus my body
4. I focus my mind

This week’s homework assignment is to memorize the four laws focus and begin using each in both your capoeira training and activities outside the studio. Download the attachment and record a specific time you applied one of the laws of focus this week.
